This seems fake, but the fact is I have no goddamn clue what that dictatorial lunatic does in his spare time. Maybe he really does force people to LARP looney toons gags. That’s fucked up. I hope he doesn’t upgrade to anvils.

For what it’s worth, I agree. It’s not ok. What somebody looks like or chooses to look like, is not something for you to openly critique. It’s their body, leave them alone. Don’t bring appearance into an argument

Everyone in this thread needs to read this comment. Ad hominems shouldn’t be encouraged.

True, but as they’re not being used as part of an argument that really doesn’t matter. Unless you consider “I think plastic surgery looks fake and bad” an argument. I consider it an opinion.

Nah we should shame people more. Plastic surgery in a search for “beauty” is a net negative on society. It is the source of many insecurities especially for adolescents.

Abolish beauty standards. Humans are beautiful.

Would you say the same about gender affirming care as that includes plastic surgeries?

I won’t body shame people if it’s something that is out of their control. This does not fall under that category even a little bit son.

Is body dysmorphia out of someone’s control? Is mental illness? Is being raised in a toxic society and being manipulated to never feel good enough?

You allow yourself way too much grace if you think you can judge a person’s appearance on the fact whether a person is responsible for their appearance or not. Even with plastic surgery. At some point in their lives they felt like they wanted to change something about their look. For what reasons, you don’t know. Why they went as far as they did or whether something was botched, you also don’t know. Whether they are happy or not with the results, you also don’t know.

It’s her responsibility because she did this willingly and agreed to it is such a short sighted and black and white way of thinking. Even if she did, even if she likes the result and it is as intended, it is not your place to body shame her or anyone at all. The best case scenario is that you are just bashing someone’s aesthetic choices based on your preferences. More likely you are adding insecurity to a vulnerable person (because all of us are vulnerable if we’re being honest).

So maybe try to be kind the next time. If you think it looks awful, keep it to yourself. We have so much negativity and judginess going around already.

I absolutely agree. Very well written, and you did an amazing job by highlighting the difference between responsibility (which is neutral) and fault (which is negative) here.

You have no right to make women feel worse than they already do about their appearance. I never encouraged anything in my first comment.

Women are constantly making others feel awful about their appearance, mostly commenting about other women in fact.

Sometimes they also discuss weather guys are ugly or not. Welcome to the real world outside of social media bullshit political correctness.

I think the joke is that, in their opinion, lemmy.world might as well be reddit, since it’s the largest and most well known instance that’s usually the defacto gateway to Lemmy for fleeing Reddit users. :p

I think it’s more in the sense that lemmy.world users have the most redditor-like behaviour. I have started considering moving to an instance that isn’t federated with lemmy.world.
