Hey guys.

I want to piss off my free loading racist father in law.

I have access to website blocking on my router. What kind of websites would he go to that I should block. I know in an ideal world run Pihole dns and re reroute. But that’s not feasible at the moment.

Stormfront is still a thing! I actually looked it up a while back to see if that cesspool is still going. Found a fascinating post by one user claiming that vegetables and greens (as opposed to meat) make men weak and that brussel sprouts are, in fact, a jewish conspiracy.

I like to think of it as a digital kiddy pen for the dumbest of racists.

Stormfront is the grandpa of nazi racist sites. They’ve been blaming Jews for everything since way before these modern social media platforms were even imagined!

4chan is racist? I always thought it’s just gross in many ways and not specific to racism.

No more or less then twitter or Facebook, but there’s no hidden communities or algorithm creating bubbles.

there’s no hidden communities or algorithm creating bubbles.

Just pointing out that their bubbles are willingly and intentionally created by what boards one frequents.

It’s technically possible to browse boards that aren’t complete shit holes, assuming that your preferred board doesn’t get raided. Or, more likely, people just don’t notice the crypto-racism on less overt boards, like /k/, or /g/ to a lesser extent based on current events…

But that knowledge is years old, so maybe the place has changed. More than likely not for the better, but change is possible…

Just slow down his connection by a little bit everyday. By blocking all those websites he will probably get suspicious.

In the world of Site Reliability Engineering, it’s better to fail than to be inconsistent.

So I suggest the opposite here. Start out by resolving the site 75% of the time. Then down to 20%, then 100%. Randomly make it not work with no predictably.

The great thing is if he uses his phone on a cellular network, he can’t be sure whether it’s because the site is working or because something hinky is going on in his network.

Yeah that’s what I need for my aging father in law. The number of shitty AI based YouTube shorts I’ve had to overhear is crazy.

I would run Adguard Home running on some tinyclient, telling him that the sites do not exist.

Use bettercap for Arp poisoning and Redoute bis traffic via your system. Sniff the dns traffic and record the domains he is resolving. Set them in bettercap to resolve to the IP of a garporn site.

If you’re happy with OpenDNS logging your traffic, you could set the router to use them as the DNS server (assuming your network is DHCP and your father-in-law’s devices just use whatever DNS server your router says). As long as one of your devices keeps OpenDNS updated with your IP (the one provided by your ISP), then you can look through the traffic to see what is being accessed (and even enabling category content blocking if you wish). Of course, if your father-in-law is IT savvy, he’ll just manually set the DNS server on his devices.
