I sent my biggest new client proposal today (in terms of dollar value) since starting this little insignificant business of mine. I thought it would take years before I’d be pitching for work of this value, but a few things lined up to get this opportunity. Spent hours thinking over the pricing to quote, resisting the urge to quote super cheap just to get in the work. I’m not about being the very cheapest, because I take pride in what I do and doing it well. But also I’m a one-man show so I need to be realistic on what people are going to pay for me vs bigger businesses. They probably come to me expecting cheaper. Thinking of pricing for my work sucks.

Fingers crossed they go ahead! It will keep me busy for a bit.

booo. Woke up with my heart pumping and feeling anxious. I guess I need to start actively incorporating relaxation techniques again.

      Hugs.

I’m sorry you’re going through alot of shit right now.

One thing I like to do to de-stress is to write things down. Lists upon list. Mark things off. Add things. It helps to declutter my mind while actively getting things done.

I hope you find solutions to your troubles ♥

I’ve been there, ugh. Gentle hugs. I used to wake up around 1:30-2am with my heart pounding and in the midst of a panic attack. For some reason it helped me to ask myself, “what exactly am I anxious about and can I do anything about it right now?” It’s an awful feeling for sure.

      Edit: for clarity.

Added fun if you’re afab: if you have no stressors you’re aware of, go see a doctor. Feelings of dread and heart racing can be indicative of cardio problems, we present differently to amabs

I’m debating whether or not I should take a gap year before starting the teaching course.

This is on the basis that I find a casual job with full time hours. I really wanted to do teaching but everyone around me is saying I shouldn’t do it because of behaviour management, taking work home, and that I’m too much of a stresshead. I also have unmanaged ADHD, constantly submitting things late. When I’m a “bad student”, I feel like I’ll be a bad teacher.

I think I’ll try the teaching course and then apply for OT if it doesn’t fit.

I would say take a gap year if you’re feeling a bit lost/overwhelmed because god knows it becomes much harder to do as you get older. And some of the people you meet/experiences you have may turn out to be pivotal to the rest of your life, even if you end up going in a different direction.

Always regretted not taking a gap year. If you can manage it, do it. You may discover your life’s passion who knows…

Could you work as a teacher’s aide for a while to sus out what it’s like to work at a school? (Although you might need a cert to do that - not sure)

Teaching is really something you have to love to do.

You’ll often feel unappreciated and have to put in a lot of hours for meetings and after work meetings.

There’s also communications with parents as well and they aren’t always a nice thing to deal with.

Depending on where you work you may have to deal with dual curriculums and you’ll have even less time to teach.

Then there’s the dreaded report writing.

I think pay may have gotten better and it’s certainly an area where jobs are in demands at the moment.

I got my hair cut and beard trimmed today so I look normal. My dad was always telling me to get it cut and there’s too much at stake, so I don’t want anything being a potential obstacle to another job.

And I think I might look alright? I’ve lost some hair and pretty much always had it tied back, so I’m not sure if I’d grow it out again when shit gets stable

Oh sick discovered a camper my car can actually tow! Got a turbo diesel with nearly 2 tonnes of towing capacity, but if I stand on the towball thats almost too much weight for it. Not exactly the best design in the world.

Can you get airbags installed or better suspension? Still seems pretty crazy, my MUX tows my camper fine without airbags.

unfortunately not that simple. Its the actual weight at the towball itself that’s my limiting factor. A little baby camper trailer will almost always be under a tonn. And there isnt a great way to measure tow ball limit annoyingly.

Repeat after me - Hayman Reese, Hayman Reese - best towing rigs in the goddamn world. Seriously, they’re bolt on towing rigs that can be fitted to practically anything and will tow the Titanic up Mt Kosciusko. If you plan to go off road, or have variable loads, they’re the best. I had an H frame one put on my Ford 250 for towing horses and NEVER regretted it. Made light work of towing a 3 horse trailer all over Vic and NSW back in the day. Fully loaded too. And I found I was de-bogging other people’s rigs out of muddy ground on a fairly regular basis. Mind you, I did have a low torque gearbox added on too which helped.

I meant more checking that the listed ball weight for the camper is accurate. Weigh bridges can have different sections, so you detach the trailer, position the main axle on one section and the jockey wheel on the next, make sure it’s level, then you’ll get an accurate camper ball weight… I say this as a PSA on account of when I was looking to buy our first camper, the one we were looking at, the guy had replaced the stats plate (? The metal plate with the gross weight, ball weight etc) with a different one, unbeknownst to us. Ball weight was well above what he was claiming as he’d had stainless steel cabinets added. Luckily we caught it before buying.

Popped into the new QV Five Guys. First of all, I can’t believe Americans eat like this. There were enough fries in their smallest serving to comfortably feed a family of four, with leftovers for the next day. It looks expensive compared to other burger places but it’s probably fairly equivalent if you price it by weight. The fries and Cajun seasoning on them were so good. The burgers come with two patties; it took all my strength to push through the meat sweats to finish the last 20% of mine.

Overall, the fries were definitely a winner. I’d choose Huxtaburger over this if I was really craving a burg, even if the serving size there is smaller for the same price. I might be tempted to return for a milkshake or hotdog but maybe after a week or two recovery period. In the mean time think I need a shower. 😮‍💨

One out of three stressful things done - training and exam (that I didn’t study for at all, but I use the stuff frequently at work and excel at multiple choice exams so I’m confident I’ll pass).

Also finally got my licence photo taken after procrastinating till the last minute. Don’t want to acknowledge how much older and more stressed out I look after ten years 🥲 my old photo is one of the best ID photos I’ve ever had.

Next up: last day at lesser job tomorrow with lots if tidying up and handovers. And thirdly on Wednesday, big uni meeting for which I have not prepared at all and am more anxious about than today’s exam, but I simply have no energy to look at today. I will not overpush myself. I’m going to go for a walk now with my journal and find some grass to lie on while it’s still bright, although lomgcat is absolutely lovin’ on me right now and mashing her face into my jaw.

Praying for some restful sleep tonight.

My somehow my last licence renewal used the old photo which is awesome. I am so young in it now! I don’t want to give it up either.

My last licence renewal did too, but it’s now been over ten years so it’s photo change time.

I’ve just walked myself to a park with heaps of gum trees and although I can hear the freeway in the background, it’s still been so good to kick my shoes off and lie on the grass, feet touching the earth, looking at the leaves in the sky and hearing the commotion of garrulous lorikeets and kookaburras. I love the weather on days like this. I think I should organise a day up in the hills on the weekend with the other day set aside for a massive house clean

This guy is five today! He is getting a batch of biscuits when my sister is done with work. I think they have cheese and peanut butter in them. Will attempt to get the recipe from her.
