So I’m sitting here again watching the “synchronizing cloud” thing spinning infinitely and I think I’m done with steam forever. I just want to play a game without all this hassle

Edit

Well this is already worse than reddit…

Not sure how I offended you with my question…

Disabling cloud sync would eliminate the last reason for using steam in the first place…

You didn’t offend me, but you also didn’t really clarify what you actually want/need which made me think you just wanted to complain 🤷‍♂️ steam works and it’s way better than all of the alternatives. While you might find solutions for just managing games, nothing offers the level of “just works” as steam input and proton in Steam.

No alternative to Steam has cloud sync afaik though, it seems that disabling steam sync is easier than changing your entire game library if you’re having internet problems.

No because as I said that would be the last reason to keep using steam ,no cloud sync then I’ll just switch to an offline solution which steam isn’t.

      Thanks that looks good.

Just the fact that you don’t have to login would be a great usability improvement

I would not want to jump through hoops to make the games work by myself when the most I have to do in Steam is to go to compatibility settings and select a different runtime. Both Bottles and Heroic are more involved and to get the games off GOG or so, you have to login anyway.

alsoyou can keep using proton without steam if you really want.

Still a bit more complicated than Steam, also Steam is funding Proton development.

You can just hit “play anyways”. As for your actual question I don’t know of any, I thought Lutris did but apparently it does not.

You can use Lutris to launch the gane directly, either natively or using Wine, but only for games that don’t implement Steam’s DRM. For the ones that do, Lutris would still have to launch Steam before the game runs.

Dunno, gaming on linux is kinda limited outside stream and lutris, especially it’s you want a controller friendly environment for launching your games from, you’re kinda SOL outside of steam big picture

The frontend that was mentioned here seems to work just fine. My system is now steam free.
