At an accelerating rate that is out of sync with our own population growth*
I was wondering the same thing, thanks for the stats.
We could get into the nitty gritty and determine how many chickens an average person eats etc, and maybe we’d find that they’re actually growing at a reasonable rate in comparison to one another, but at first glance these numbers do suggest that we’re killing animals at an accelerating rate.
I’m not vegan but I’ve greatly reduced my meat intake in the past few years, I only really eat it when I’m out and about. This decision was party made because I care about the environment, but this definitely is not the case for many people, so how could they be convinced? A mass marketing campaign aimed at disgusting them?
I read Nudge and enjoyed it, despite agreeing with many of the criticisms of it. The writing style was accessible and entertaining, so I’ll probably check this out.
Both efforts are intertwined and can run in parallel
Nice! I wonder if they plan to integrate Pixelfed with Loops so they can work as one app - replace the Instagram/Reels combo
I noticed there is an animist community here, that’s something I’d like to learn more about. I believe it’s about respecting non-living things? It reminds me of the Japanese idea of tsukonogabi, where items gain a spirit after 100 years.
I enjoy philosophy, thank you!
Thank you Solo 🙏
With respect it sounds like you’re a bit overly germaphobic. If you want you could wipe them with an alcohol wipe, but you could also just forget all about it and your life will be the same.
The irony of using an AI generated image for this post…
AI imagery makes any article look cheaper in my view, I am more inclined to “judge the book by its cover”.
Why would you slap something so lazy on top of a piece of writing you (assuming it isn’t also written by AI) put time and effort into?
Judging by the picture alone things can surely only get better. This is one of those classic cases of a tipping point needing to be reached before an “experimental” solution can be actioned.
Hopefully the solution is actually beneficial and not some “not plastic but still not good” alternative. In Vancouver they banned single use plastic bags for things like food takeout, and instead places now use small fabric bags. Yes they aren’t single-use plastic, so they’re better, but they might as well still be single-use.
