My thoughts, and I would really, really love for someone to offer me a sliver of hope.

• They only have to pick a few counties with surprising results and audit those to figure out if there’s a widespread problem worth a more extensive recount, right? I realize that’s still far more work than I probably realize, but I feel like it would be a good litmus test for “there is something here” or “there is not, sorry folks.”

• Anyone have any faith at all that Dems will pursue the actual possibility of fraud with a fraction of the verve that Republicans have pursued fictitious voter fraud?

• I’ve been silently praying that on November 6th someone in Kamala’s circle had already thought of my first bullet point above, that this is already in progress, and they won’t talk about it until they are done, but also see my second bullet point. 😁

I’ve lost every smidgen of respect I had for Americans.

I’ve been saying what will keep me alive the next four years is reminding Trump voters they are getting what they voted for every time they start to complain.

But, four years of even Republicans having to fight tooth and nail against his insanity would be even better.

He doesn’t have “D” next to his name and has shown no indication of rationality, so yes.

The 22nd amendment to the US Constitution bars Trump as a viable candidate for the Office of the President. It would require an additional amendment to be possible and there’s no way that 3/4ths of all US states will agree to that shit.

I no longer believe the process and laws of our government will apply to this administration. We’ll see.

It’s generally called a “duty to disobey,” and is empowered by the Uniform Code of Military Justice. The UCMJ is more concerned about the need to obey orders, but specifies the conditions when military personnel may feel justified in not following them:

If the order is “contrary to the constitution” or “the laws of the United States.”

If the order is “patently illegal, … such as one that directs the commission of a crime.”

I literally had kool aid typed because that’s what everyone is used to hearing. Then I thought of the number of times I’ve said “Well ackshually” to others about that, so decided to heed my own pedantry.

I’ve been out a long time and was of low rank in any case. However, I’m skeptical that safeguards don’t exist that will make that less effective than it sounds. For one thing, the duty to disobey unlawful orders goes all the way to the lowest E1. But I am doubtful that Trump can successfully reach a point where all or even enough of the top brass are willing to drink his flavor aid to not have to worry about them.

I don’t fail to appreciate your viewpoint, but while such a military exists, I’d like stopping 21st century Hitler before he can get started to be a service they provide.

A tiny sliver of hope.

I know the sorts of oaths I had to take when I was in the military. I didn’t really enjoy my time there and I still took them seriously.

Those folks at the Pentagon, I would hope, are the sort that take them very seriously. And it is your duty to refuse unlawful orders.

If there’s enough “good ones” left, we might see some resistance coming from that area.

Damn, you’re right, she did mention that in one single interview and I had forgotten until you mentioned it.

And yet, if it were an important issue to you, important enough that your vote hinged on it, I’m quite sure you and every other voter could head to google and go “Kamala Harris price gouging” to find out.

The argument is basically “Yes she was doing what I wanted but she didn’t tell me personally so I voted for the other guy.”

To be fair, and I say this as someone whose life is impacted by autism in multiple ways, I can think of at least one very smart autistic teenager whose communication challenges are such that they would struggle with “what do you mean by” as the opening to a question, but I get your point and agree with it.

Lots of things could have been said or done before assuming a 13 year old autistic kid with no other red flags has not only brought a bomb to school, but brought such a sophisticated bomb that the teacher couldn’t at least peek inside the bag to see what was in there.

And there’s a phrase that flows right from this, and is commonly applied to cops. 🤔

I’m willing to put a pretty big dollop of blame on the cops. An autistic kid says something without awareness of some of the context which is shown to have NO nefarious intent behind it, and nothing to show for it but a stuffed animal - and yet they slap the cuffs on anyhow.

But we’ll find out they were at the next school shooters house 5 times and concluded that he wasn’t a threat without any more investigation than talking to him.
