lenin shotgun fucking liberals

Not the mod literally pulling the “it’s just a drawing” argument for photorealistic deepfakes of a real child and calling people bootlickers for calling them out 😩

The lemmyverse outside of here never fails to disgust (sorry I don’t have screenshots, there’s too much here lol)

This is just an extension of the crisis when I was in high school of boys sharing nude photos girls gave them with each other without consent. There’s been no real reckoning with the intersection of technology and our cruel, patriarchal, pornified culture. The girls who were victimized by that were no less ‘innocent’ than this girl, they weren’t tainted and deserving of it because their hormone-addled teen brains made a bad decision once or twice. It’s not a new problem. It’s just the same revenge-porn type thing but now with guys that never even got such photos starting it by spreading fakes. And honestly there needs to be a solution that isn’t hunt down and charge people one by one but stop it before it spreads far and wide.

And total aside but I bet discords were heavily involved in the spread of this. I swear if you shut down discord tomorrow you’d cut grooming in half, you’d cut sharing of this stuff and other bad material by more than half. It’s just such a vile shit-hole platform that allows and entices the worst kind of scum.

If you shut down Discord, it’ll just be replaced by Telegram or Signal or some other similar app. Maybe won’t be as popular as Discord, since Discord got popular because it started out as free Teamspeak for gamers, but still…

At the end of the day, it all comes down to awareness and education. Kids have phones and tablets from an early age, but the adults have no idea how to teach them to be safe on the internet.

        sure, but consider: deplatforming works

if reddit-logo banned nazism tomorrow and actually banned the subreddits like they do left wing ones less people would have easy access to the passive recruiting of wholesome reddit fuckery

Oh, I’m definitely not against deplatforming. It does work. Just saying it’s a short-term solution. Within 5 years, something else will pop up to serve the same purpose.

I had always been real suspicious of discord from the start as it moved from being a skype replacement to what amounts to a social media site with little gated communities. I never thought these communities were this unchecked and unmoderated, however. No one really knows what the fuck goes on in any of them, based on the stories I’ve heard of that shithole. The darkest shit imaginable goes down in there, the true bottom of the internet. People into evil shit congregate around 4chan until it gets to be too gross and actionable for even the 4chan mods. That’s when they start funneling into discord links passed around in their threads complaining about their posts being removed.

Oh god some of those comments arguing whether the computer made image is actually bad is just ghoulish shit. Do they read what they type out loud. Its bizzare to be like “umm its computer image so its not real”, that’s absolutely dumb as hell. No there is a real person that’s being affected here. Can they not see that.

‘no but the observer isnt real’ they likely think; its a symptom of utter detatchment from reality and the perspective of the type of voyuer that only achknowledges the object as a stand alone entity with an objective meaning that stands alone.

Most people with such opinions just hold their tongue. Imagine the radicalization required to rabidly support such an unmistakably controversial opinion to the point that they’re padding essays.

If we’re going to pull the “it’s not real it’s just a picture” bullshit, we might as well argue that film and photography are “just pictures.” Outright fiction is one thing. This is something entirely different.
