And the yankees still think Vietnam somehow hates China.
I think that the US State Department blew out of proportion the fact that Vietnam sided with the USSR in the First Cold War and not the PRC (which were technically allies of the US at that moment) and the spat over the Spratly Islands. Sure they do have disagreements but to believe that Vietnam will seriously be used as a pawn against China is absolutely moronic.
It’s absolutely incredible to me that the yanks think that the country they abused and brutalized is going to side with them in the end.

Both occupied by the US with large US armies still stationed there. Vietnam sent the US packing.
There is still some national resentment lingering between these 2 nations but its definitely trending on the good direction, but regardless if they hate anyone it’s the US.
That’s what I like to see. If Asia finally unites into a common front, they can actually decolonize. Same goes for Africa.
