The morning after former President Donald Trump repeated racist claims about Haitians in Springfield, Ohio, some Haitian families are keeping their children home from school for their safety, according to an area activist. Those who allowed their children did so, but with heavy hearts.

“She [my niece] was scared, but I told her to go, that God would protect,” said one Haitian resident, who asked that she not be identified publicly for fear of reprisal.

“We’re all victims this morning,” said the woman, who moved to Springfield six years ago. “They’re attacking us in every way.”

Aside from the anxiety caused by Tuesday night’s debate, the woman also said her cars have been vandalized twice in the middle of the night. She woke up one morning to broken windows and another to acid thrown on the vehicle. She’s added cameras to her driveway and tried to report the incidents to the police to no avail.

Conservatism is harmful. It always has been.

In all of human history, nothing good has ever come from conservatism. Nothing. There is simply no place in a modern culture for harmful, regressive, hate-based ideologies like conservatism.

it’s almost like we should do something about it instead of waiting for the government to do something about it.

it’s almost like the world is on a collision course with a giant metaphorical iceberg while we stand idly by and do nothing.

it’s almost like any amount of carnage and destruction would be better than a future in which we continue to let morons have a hand in guiding our society.

I miss when conservatives tried to conserve things like national parks (i.e. Teddy Roosevelt) instead of using conservatism as a mask for racism.

It’s like, it seems appropriate for a two party system to have one party push for progress, while the other advises caution. But they dropped the euphemism and have been just blatantly racist/xenophobic/anti-other for far too long to pretend now that conservatism is anything else.
