OK, so I have the 2009 edition of the Marvel Encyclopedia, which has 8 pages devoted to The Hulk. Apparently he had “every atom of his body exposed to gamma radiation” from a gamma-bomb he was working on. It’s been revealed that Banner also has multiple personality disorder that contributes to his various Hulk forms.

I thought I remember from decades ago that his bulk and healing energy comes and goes from a transdimensional space, but I can’t seem to find that in the article.

However, I really like this StackExchange answer, which posits that he is an energy-processing mutant that taps into the Power Cosmic to fuel his incredible strength. https://scifi.stackexchange.com/a/84410

Wait until you see the more recent lore that explains that Gamma radiation comes directly from super hell and there’s magic involved. It technically doesn’t make what is in the encyclopedia untrue, but it wildly recontextualizes it.

Is this community for shitposts now? Stupid question (it’s a comic), 6 hours, no replies from OP.

Op is a brand new account it’s just a bot to shitpost. I imagine some people would like to begin filling Lemmy with vitriol to bring it down into the sewers like all the rest. Mods should ban these users no question no delay.

Based on your username, I can only assume you are well versed in the topic. It’s from the magic of gamma rays.

      Also: rule of cool.

That seems to be the answer to pretty much all the weird stuff you see in MCU movies. If it’s cool, they’ll throw it on the screen. If not, there’s a pretty good chance it gets cut before release.

The original comic books may have evaluated various decisions in the same light, but it really depends. Some comics were highly whimsical, where anything goes, while others were more serious and dark. I haven’t read the original hulk comics, so I can’t really tell if it was meant to be harmless fun where nothing is taken seriously.

Banners body has a store of extremely high energy particles. When he transforms, they are converted to much lower energy particles and the energy is converted to mass (e=mc^2). When the hulk goes back to banner, is the same process in reverse: mass is converted to much more highly energetic particles.

He doesn’t. He is lower density after transformation. Basically inflated. Also, he doubles as a life raft.

I don’t think The Hulk is real. I’m pretty sure that’s how a lot of things in comic books work. Coudl someone who knows more back me up?
