Are there promising mobile OS options besides android?
Postmarket maybe ?
Short answer:
no.
Long answer:
no. And Lineage is far from being usable as a daily driver
I had it as my dili driver on Galaxy S2, Xperia 2 back in the day and it worked just fine as DD.
Lineage is also just aosp afaik. So that’s not an alternative.
Lineage is fine as a DD for lots of people. The only real issues are what you mention in your other comment, which many people don’t use, like myself.
Define many as a percentage of ~8 billion+ humans with smartphones or thereabouts
That’s a ridiculous metric. Not every human has and uses a smartphone. Not all of the ones that do use Android. Not all the Android users use Lineage. The only percentage that makes sense is that of total LineageOS users.
OK, what is the better metric? I’m not trying to gotcha really, but I use tap and pay and my banking apps very incredibly often and would not consider a phone where I couldn’t, and suspect that it is a significant driving factor for others as well.
To quote myself 😋
I’ve used Lineage, and Cyanogen before it, it worked fine for me. Doesn’t work out for you, and that’s ok, because you have options.
It’s pretty trivial to just keep your card in your pocket and use the bank’s website though
My bank requires either the mobile app, or a physical device you have to put your card into and scan a qr code with. Very inconvenient, especially on the go.
Fortunately though my bank’s mobile app works on GrapheneOS, but that might not be the case for everyone.
I used Lineage as a DD for like a year
Bank app? NFC payments?
My bank app worked fine. NFC payments not so much. It was a tradeoff I was willing to make
There are Magisk modules for that.
Some bank apps work on LineageOS, some don’t. Mine does, and I’ve only used it twice in ten years, but I’d sooner switch banks than run Google’s android.
