I don’t know if this is just a placebo effect, but it feels like there’s a lot more socialization and faster upvotes in the past hour Sync was released.
I signed up for lemmy when Reddit started pulling it’s shit. But I didn’t really do anything here until today when sync informed me that the lemmy app was available.
I bet I’m not the only one.
Nope. I’ve messed around with other apps but nothing comes close to Sync.
Connect for Lemmy has been really good so far, too.
Summit is pretty cool.
I really like liftoff
I’m using Jerboa, as I don’t want to use a closed source app with In App purchases and Google tracking. It’s nice there are so many options!
Same here. Lemmy websites are not that good. Sync app is great
Hey it’s me
Goku!
I hadn’t created an account til today. I was going to just use sync for reddit with the revanced patch at first but I decided to just ghost reddit until this came out, and now I’m getting my sync fix again lol so far so good, besides there being a bit less content on lemmy vs reddit the experience so far it has been great. Plus, it feels like fewer bots, at least for now, so that’s also a major plus.
There are dozens of us. Dozens, I say! DOZENS!
Yep, same here. Tried a bunch of different apps but never became comfortable with any of them, so I completely stopped using Lemmy, but Sync gave me a reason to come back here.
This is exactly my case. Received the notification for the new Sync and I’ve been exploring for like 2 hours. Amazing
I’m using sync until infinity beta goes public, at least.
edit: and I’m not longer using Sync! 😊
Me too, I started my download almost immediately after being notified.
Yep, me too. First posting here 😊
Nope, that’s why I’m here!
Same. There were also lots of server errors in the week after sync stopped working for Reddit so I took some time off.
The sync app is amazing though.
Sync drastically reduces the barrier to using Lemmy for sure.
I appreciate the vanilla Lemmy experience but Sync has my muscle memory / usage habits after all. And it fixes some of my UX complaints that seem mildly annoying but enough to disengage me from the browsing session.
Yes! Long press on thumbnails was the #1 reason I just couldn’t get into the other apps.
If those excellent reddit community admins come our way, we will be set.
ljdawson’s decision to develop a Lemmy app played a significant part in locking down our decision to bring /r/android to !android@lemdro.id.
Sync makes Lemmy feel like a better version of Reddit, or an old school version of Reddit. It’s great for Lemmy and old Reddit users.
At least the experience scrolling through lemmy now is 100x better.
It’s night and day, Jerboa felt like an app from 2010
This. They were missing some key ease of access features like hide read posts
Sooooooo thankful that sync is up and running
I was missing Hide read sooo fucking much!
Does Sync have automatically hide read posts? I couldn’t find it in the settings, could you point me to it?
I don’t know about automatically but I have it on my actions. The three little dots in the top right you can bring up the menu and if hide read isn’t there you can hit the three dots again on that menu - action visibility, to add it. Can hold and drag the order of the actions too.
Yeah, unfortunately that’s not permanent. If I refresh or come back later, the seen posts are back again. I don’t know if it’s a bug or an intended feature :/
It does, at least auto-hide after seeing post media. Saw that in the settings. Very good offering overall.
Do you remember where? I can see mark seen, but not a hide seen or anything like that
Ah forget it, my bad. I must have been confusing apps, I was comparing a bunch earlier today. Sorry about that.
Using web, going back always put the feed active, despite me changing the sort. So yeah, having the app back is good. And I got all my use patterns back!
It’s nice to have an app that runs smoothly and doesn’t stutter or jitter while scrolling and navigating through lemmy.
The power of a decent UX
As someone who signed up back when third party apps died for Reddit, this is my first post. I tried a few of the apps for Lemmy, but I couldn’t get into it. I tried Sync a couple of hours ago, and it just works. I can see that being the case for others.
I don’t know if it’s a coincidence or not, but RiF is now completely dead for me, until now I could browse, just not log in, now you can no longer browse on it at all. could be another contributing factor
I’m in the same boat, now that sync is here and works well I’m here contributing. I’m so happy sync still feels like sync and works mostly the same way.
Welcome!
I literally was waiting for sync to be released to use Lemmy.
I call it plausible. The Sync UI is considerably more efficient than the Lemmy web UI. And many of us refugees were 3rd party app users and some of us were Sync users. I have been commenting more since this morning. Surely I am not alone in that?
It seems like it. I see a lot of people posting that they were using X app but sync is better.
I agree sync is an amazing app, both formerly for Reddit, and now for Lemmy, but huge kudos to the developers of existing Lemmy apps for working hard to make the mobile experience as good as possible for us Reddit refugees. I used connect until sync came out, and noticed it was frequently updated. I’d highly recommend everyone support their favourite app developer(s) in whatever way possible. Thanks Kuro!!
Can’t use the phrase “X app” anymore without confusing people thanks to Musk.
No joke, I felt like a luddite after trying to click the “X” in the upper right of an embedded tweet to close it earlier this afternoon on my laptop.
Hallmark of a shitty trademark though. Use it to refer to every app, water down any uniqueness that it has left.
That wouldn’t mean there’s more users if they’re already here using a different app.
Sync is great. Good ui = more users :)
I think it’s just because it’s so easy to browse again, I’m just seeing a lot more stuff
Yep same here. It’s helped me understand the Lemmy infrastructure a lot more too. Everything seemed really scattered which is what put me off for so long.
Think so too
For whatever is worth, this is my first post ever on the fediverse…
And this is my first comment…
And my axe!
And now all we need is a mom’s spaghetti reference to make all the Redditugees feel at home
Lemmy’s got its own legends now: the no-poop challenge!
Welcome aboard! But why Lemmy.world? It’s been so problematic lately over there.
Sync defaulted us to it. When trying to add an account, lemmy.world was the easiest one to use.
For a lot of casual users (myself included) we don’t know any better or why we would do anything else.
TBH I think Lemmy.world is the best instance to default to. It’s a large, well supported instance. It has open registration (many large instance require your account to be manually approved), and it’s a general instance (not targeting any specific region, hobby/interest, or theme).
After you’ve been around a while you’ll get a better idea of whether a more niche instance is right for you, and can make a new account at that point.
Except it hasn’t unless you mean being down then sure.
Someone who’s just doing their first comment is not going to know
I did the Mastodon thing and just created usernames on several servers, one being the most popular. What’s the 411 on lemmy.world being problematic? TIA
Its just been really unstable, getting ddos attacked all the time.
It was really unstable during the first big reddit abandonment.
This is my second
Eyyyyy welcome!
Yes because the shit that shows up inside of sync is the same way that it did on Reddit. For a lot of users, I bet Reddit was sync. The shit that shows up inside the users probably don’t care where it comes from.
Yes exactly. I never used the official Reddit app, so I just stopped using it all together. Now that sync is up again I just use it like nothing happened
It definitely was to me. I didn’t even really use desktop reddit. I basically stopped using reddit when sync went down. Let’s see where this lemmy thing goes. But everything looking and feeling the same makes the switch easy. The content will hopefully come. Just curating my feed, finding what to sub to etc is just a lot of work. It will probably take ages.
Same, other than the odd link that was sent to me. I haven’t checked since the API issue but i wonder if old was shut down too 🤔
I’m finding the sync experience far nicer than Jerboa so far, not surprised. Jerboa fails to load comments half the time and I get errors constantly that stop content refreshes.
I’ve been using Connect and Liftoff most of my time on Lemmy - can you compare those two to Sync, if you’ve tried them?
I use connect. Connect is pretty good and i didn’t realyy have any complaints. But after using Sync, it feels much much smoother. It’s well polished.

I was using Chrome instead of jerboa because the experience was so bad.
