Whatever damn fool did this has just made the situation about a million times worse. I don’t give a shit who did this, it was the worst move you could have made at the worst time you could have made it.

And those of you jumping to immediate conspiracy theories need to stop and think about how much we tend to make fun of Republicans for doing literally the exact same thing. Us spending the next 3 days circlejerking each other off our own bullshit conspiracy theories isn’t gonna help the situation, its just gonna make us all look like a bunch of hypocrites. Wait a few days, get whatever info they are willing to give us, and then try to figure out what happened. If it still looks fake or like a false flag or whatever the fuck after that point, whatever. but for gods sake use some critical thinking to get there instead of jumping to conclusions with no info.

For what its worth, I am extremely anti-trump, I am scared shitless of what will happen should he win a second term. But dear god, please think about the way you all are acting, when you act like the same kind of psychopaths you claim to stand against it is not a good look. please consider that before you post.

You’re absolutely right. However, they were going to find a reason regardless, since violence was always their end goal.

If it wasn’t this idiot it would have been something else: Trump losing the election is any easy one. The “Boogaloo crowd” resorting to violence was inevitable – the only thing that has changed is we can no longer pretend it’s tomorrow’s problem.

This has immense rhetorical power in terms of amping up support. It makes it easier to recruit, justify, pursue goals, etc.

Put in in Hoi4 terms. If ‘political capital’ can be reasonably simplified into a score, a currency, this is ‘bank error in your favor, have a buttload of free points.’

…with which you can more easily pursue a wide variety of actions or policies.

I could not agree more. Aren’t we supposed to be the ones who care about democracy, about humanity, and about logic and reason?

Some innocent bystander died, and their family is going to sleep tonight without their loved one alive for the first time. Others are waiting anxiously in hospitals while their innocent loved ones are in critical condition. Fuck Trump, but no one deserves to have been killed or maimed for being at one of his rallies.

It doesn’t for Democrat voters. They’re only voting against Trump. This doesn’t change who DT is, his viewpoints, or his past actions. This doesn’t change him being a Felon and a suspected pedophile. All this is an attempt to incite more violence.

Let me present an situation to you:

Trump and his party: “a crazy left wing fucker tried to kill me. Let’s take them Dems down vote repub” and lots of other pushing agendas and statements about Dems being killers.

If you don’t feel like this isn’t more fuel for that then again you are missing the point. This will absolutely shift votes.

Dude stabbed himself in the ear with a pin, got a group hug on stage and started FIST PUMPING from inside a ring of special service. Head out, fist up, like “HERE I AM. IM NO COWARD”. You know who does that? Actors. Who know the script and have rehearsed the scene.

Most people are treating this like Abraham Lincoln or Martin Luther King shooting, but it’s not. These people were liked and generally seen as good.

This shooting is more akin to a Hitler shooting, which he had survived many, and was not liked. This is not a martyr situation and most are not going to change their feels for trump.

Russia can be a problem. China has a different way of doing business. And if what they do in Africa can be used as a blueprint, it’s not a bad prospect. Becoming a business partner instead of making coups.

I don’t like the way China rules in China but with other countries it behaves much better than the US or the EU.

That might be true presently but would that remain the case if there were no one to oppose them?

I don’t think for a moment that the US is a well-behaved global citizen, but China is absolutely ideologically opposed. Their behavior in the south china sea in recent years is not at all that of a business partner. They have however invested heavily in the region to develop strategic locations.

Now think how many coups have the seal of the US or the USSR and how many have the seal of China.

Buuut, when the context of the discussion is global politics, human lives are put through the wood chipper by the thousands because of what does or doesn’t happen. So the scale of severity we’re working with is just different.

It’s very sad to see people condoning this. I’m far from a Trump supporter, but this is unacceptable. If this was Biden being shot at, you’d all be saying “typical right wing, gun-toting nutjobs.”

Plus what you fail to understand is that Trump being shot at is just further securing his presidency, and anyone who was previously on the fence will now be more inclined to vote for the person who was “shot at for his beliefs.”

Thats idiotic. For one thing, ill disavow stochastic terrorism as soon as the right does for anybody not on their side. Certainly I dont support it, but are you really gonna claim you think itd be bad if this stuff happened more often targeting conservatives? I dont give a shit that trump got shot at except to be happy that it happened, and the rest of america isnt that dumb either.

Of course its unacceptable, but its literally the definition of “play stupid games, win stupid prizes”. Assassination attempts come with the territory of being a fascist, this event is exactly the same as a lion eating a gazelle. Im happy that nature is taking its course as intended, but im not gonna go around taking sides on the issue.

We also tend to discuss edge cases to sometimes avoid removal, but again, the volume of reports and rule breaking content did not offer that luxury. All decisions can be appealed by messaging a mod.

Then you are incredibly historically naive. He was already winning by every available metric. So, if nothing had changed at all there was already an extremely high likelihood of him being reelected. This only serves to further strengthen his chances.

I don’t think people really understand how stupid, brainwashed, and weak minded the average American truly is. There are plenty of people who will vote for him because surviving an assassination attempt makes him look strong. Count on it.

You could make points without calling the other person naive. No need to make the internet a worse place.

As far as “every available metric” goes, you’re talking polls, and polls are garbage. Every poll had Clinton winning in late October 2016.

And we’re in an unprecedented portion of politics in American history, so bringing up historical measurements doesn’t convince me like you think it would.

I just looked for myself, and NPR/PBS survey has Biden ahead. Many other polls have it basically tied. A few have Trump in the lead by 2-3 points.

I wouldn’t personally call that winning by every available metric, although I would agree with you that it looks like Trump has a slight lead.

Individual polls are meaningless. I only care about the trends of the the aggregate polling. Five Thirty Eight has had Trump leading by an average of 2 points in aggregate polling basically from the beginning. There has never been a time where Biden was ahead during this election cycle. Therefore, using the available metrics it is clear that Donald Trump is on the path to returning to the White House.

Were those national popular vote polls? If so, you have to factor in the electoral advantage Republicans have. If the national popular vote is tied, Republicans will win.

Why are people screaming and afraid? Guns are a part of society in America. Unless… they’re dangerous…

For the people saying that the shoes comment is odd, take moment to do some reading, or watch a video, about how people react to trauma.

Basically, it’s not outrageous that his brain locked on a seemingly unimportant detail. Humans are very weird sometimes.

This was the worst possible outcome. Unless someone intends on finishing the job it may as well be his election now.

He’ll spend the rest of the election telling people how strong he is, how Biden could not have survived and he’ll use the attack to validate all his claims of Democrat corruption/Republican righteousness.

Don’t forget about how through ‘the protection of God’ trump survived so the Christian vote can put him in office with a made up deity’s approval.

Doubt it. The people, the actual Democratic voters, not numbers, know what’s at stake, nobody is changing their vote over this, nobody is going to lose votes over this.

I feel like you’re a little out of touch here.

There are hardline Democrats and Republicans who aren’t going to change their positions over anything. There’s also many people who don’t pay close attention to politics and only pick up on big news like this. Those are the people that are going to be influenced unfortunately. These people exist. They are uninformed, easily influenced and they can swing the outcome unfortunately.

Unfortunately I think he pretty much had the election the moment the democrats showed weakness by publically doubting their own candidate. But yes, this seals the deal for a trump win this year. What a damn fool. This is something that if you are going to do, you need to make absolutely sure you finish the job apripriately. You fuck this up and you end up giving him a gift.

i agree, but also assassinating the president cannot be an easy task, and considering how far away they were, literally grazing his head is a very very good attempt. trump got absurdly lucky here

You are missing that there is nothing good about this. His protections will double, his base will rally, he will justify further insane actions as he takes over the US. This is like swatting at a hornet and missing and saying it was a pretty great swat though as it stings you repeatedly in the face. Trump gets absurdly lucky with everything. He is meritless but propped up my multitudes of special interests and hordes of uneducated fools.

I don’t think this will change much. Biden’s response might. But politically, identity politics outweigh martyrdom in US. The right will get rightier and the left leftier. Most likely outcome IMO is emboldened like-actors on either side. Undecided voters could react maybe, but are they really that keyed in to be undecided in the first place?

I think you’re right that this won’t change much in terms of how people vote, but I believe it will greatly increase the tension between MAGA Republicans and everyone else. It seems probable that there will be some form of violent outburst from them.

Yeah, if nothing else trump will use it as post election legitimization for using lethal force in protest suppression and later, even more grievous acts. Not that he would have cared or needed it.
