This is how I lost 30% of my possessions moving house.
Me right now. Slowly replacing everything I put in a special place, because I can only find the non-special stuff.
I have this shitty ability that I remember better about where other people left something than where I left what I had in my hands.

I put it in a secret place to hide it from people so that no one can find it because it’s important … but I forgot where.
The next person to own my house will probably find seven or eight keys I’ve forgotten about hidden around the property … funny part is, I’ve found a couple of strange old keys hidden in boards and siding during my renovations.
My friend, you are a squirrel… Let’s hope those keys grow to create new baby houses
For me there is also a tiny sliver that is "I am currently holding it but somehow got distracted to that fact and havent realized it yet
Protip: when you’re looking for something and you find it, don’t put it back where you found it. Put it in the first place you looked.
All my stuff would be in the fridge. Always the first place I look cuz “maybe I set it down in the fridge when I was grabbing something.”

“I put it somewhere so I wouldn’t lose it” is a thought that runs through my head at least once a week.
For me it’s, “I shouldn’t be doing this. I’ll never find it again. This is an awful place to put this,” as I commit to setting something down in the abyss.
I like to balance things in absolutely awful places. Like I’ll have a platter full of minis that are ready to be painted or a tray full of hundreds of tiny electric components and I’ll set them down on top of a closed water bottle??? Why???
